First Transmission: Bearcubs, Do You Feel.

Harking back to bits of Hotflush Recordings’ canon, alongside the usual, XL-associated suspects (Jamie xx, Sampha, SBTRKT, etc.), Do You Feel – the first single to be lifted from Bearcubs’ forthcoming début album, Ultraviolet – seems as much a paean to the nascent producer’s native London as it is a product of it. For with lyrics concerning “sirens callin’ out your name” laid down neatly atop a track most reminiscent of James Blake (vocally) or earlier Mount Kimbie (musically), it makes for the consummate soundtrack to the capital under the cover of darkness; a show of unshowy, yet brilliant artistry forged in the constricting shadow cast by skyscraping capitalism.
