While Brooklyn-based four-piece Big Ups have often favoured one-worded song titles, not only does Imaginary Dog Walker stand out as one of their very best nominally, but it also confirms the feeling that their third full-length effort, itself entitled Two Parts Together, is set to be their most sonically expansive yet. From its purposefully slouchy opening salvo, to its thrashier middle segment; its pretty literal breakdown, right through to its ruinous final onslaught, it’s the unmistakable sound of an unleashed lot ramping themselves up to reach a peak they always seemed pretty likely to summit. And, far more potent than the sum of its constituent parts, Big Ups are most certainly in the ascendancy now…
