First Transmission: Cold Comforts, Get Back Up.

It’s fairly rare for a début track to come hurtling out the proverbial blocks with the vim that Get Back Up, from Mancunian quartet Cold Comforts, does; indeed, it’s been haring around my short-term memory for some days already. Sliding artfully between moody, brooding verses and comparably bright, ebullient choruses in ways loosely redolent of The Colour and The Shape, by way of certain Sub Pop signees (Built to Spill, Sebadoh, etc.), what it may lack in polish it more than compensates for in poise and punch likewise. A quietly exceptional number, and quite compelling an introduction, too.
