First Transmission: Jelly Boy, Give Up and Gamble.

Reminiscent of The Wrens, fuzzier, earlier Super Furries, Electric Soft Parade and, for one reason or another, Happyness, Give Up and Gamble is the first to surface from Everybody Is a Universe – the début EP by London’s Jelly Boy. It’s a bouncy, ebullient number, lyrics concerning “desperate and functional” Russian dolls bobbing about within breezy guitar billows and washes of colourful keys to create a carefree, freeform masterpiece.

It’s taken every bit of my being not to namedrop Jason Lytle in the 68 words shown above, mainly because it’s so trite to do so, although there’s so much “go” in the “go-for-it” that this one is every bit worth taking a big, chunky punt thereon, no question.

Everybody Is a Universe is available from April 5th via Cannibal Hymns, while Jelly Boy plays The Shacklewell Arms on March 14th.
