First Transmission: Roofers Union, Friends.

Decent band names may be deployed sparingly these days, but Roofers Union is – if you’ll pardon the laboured pun – right up there. And the same can be said of their latest single, Friends: vocally, it floats somewhere between Westerman and Ed Droste, and does so delightfully; musically, though, it flits between Bill Withers-esque slickness and liquid BADBADNOTGOODness. Reminiscences of Clor’s singular, alas one-and-only LP persist also, as does the impression this shan’t be the last we hear of the idiosyncratic Brooklyn quartet.
