St. Vincent, Los Ageless.

It’s definite testament to St. Vincent’s forever-protean nature that a track which begins akin to Feist fronting Depeche Mode, then glides through a tremendously elegant chorus (comprising the gradually clarified refrain, “How could anybody have you/ How could anybody have you, and lose you/ How could anybody have you and lose you, and not lose their mind too”) that’s as acute as the corners of Annie Clark’s custom Music Men, later grinds through a gritty, brittle middle eight, and at last concludes with a slightly obscured spoken-word segment never seems even remotely outré. For whereas New York is – and is without question – a far preferable locale to Los Angeles, conversely, Los Ageless proves infinitely more immortal than the previous extract to come from her forthcoming MASSEDUCTION full-length; instant, classic St. Vincent, and an instant St. Vincent classic all in one.

MASSEDUCTION is available from October 13th via Loma Vista Recordings, while St. Vincent plays the O2 Academy Brixton on the ensuing Tuesday, 17th.
