Suuns; Watch You, Watch Me.

Few outfits can, or even could, be as simultaneously experimental and penetrable as Suuns, and the montréalais ensemble’s latest – entitled Watch You, Watch Me – is a prime example of precisely this. Taken from their forthcoming fourth album, Felt, the track proves equal parts Kraftwerk and latter-day Mogwai, as bright, extemporised synth lines shine beacon-like atop motorik rhythmic components reminiscent of so much kosmische Musik. A measured juxtaposition of musical fluidity and cadent rigidity therefore, with Ben Shemie’s indecipherable spiel caught up amidst it all, Watch You, Watch Me makes for a perfect storm of squalling grace, and a timely reminder of Suuns’ bracing ability to conjure Musik that is at once exoteric and unorthodox.

Felt is available from March 2nd via Secretly Canadian, while Suuns play the Scala on April 5th.
