Whitney, Used To Be Lonely.

Building upon the communicational breakdown – and consequent breakup – vibe of Valleys (My Love) before it, albeit in less explicit terms, Whitney’s Used To Be Lonely hears Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek construct a sanguine number that is probably about the most textured, expressive one we have as yet heard from their forthcoming Forever Turned Around full-length. “Well, it made no sense at all/ Until you came along” Ehrlich begins, going on to confide: “I’m afraid you’re letting go/ ’Cause the only life I’ve ever known used to be lonely” as Kakacek’s lithe guitar lines orchestrate a rich crescendo – a majestic concoction of Hammond, horns, and so on. Awash with a somewhat wistful feel therefore, the end of this month can’t come soon enough…

Forever Turned Around is available from August 30th via Secretly Canadian, while Whitney play the Roundhouse on November 29th.
