BE GOOD, Nightbus.

Whereas Joseph Mount’s “half-arsed concept albumNights Out evidenced a recherché love of screeching around UK motorways, with several of its decidedly odd odes dedicated to vespertine driving, Oxford four-piece BE GOOD’s Nightbus instead centres its attentions on those dastardly nocturnal trashcans confined to our cities, and seemingly capped at no more than a mere eleven mph. Nevertheless, both musically and lyrically, Ash Cooke & Co. this time mosey at a pace comparable to much of Metronomy’s racy sophomore effort, lines along the, well, lines of: “It’s late, do you wanna go cruising?/ Are you tired of gettin’ off to bad music?/ ’Cause I don’t wanna go back in” directly reflecting Mount’s self-deprecating commentary on “going out and having a crap time.” Throw in oleaginous guitars, protuberant, Olugbenga Adelekan-like bass lines and knowing, inglorious quips (“Get fucked up every weekend, thinkin’ it’s gonna make you feel better”), and the invitation to “take the top deck” with them immediately becomes completely irresistible…
