Mister Heavenly, Beat Down.

While the rains intermittently hammer down with mean insistence today – a sodding Thursday, of all days – you may well be in need of a pick-me-up; and who better to provide such a thing than Nick Thorburn, whose peppy indie-pop escapades have been spiriting the dispirited for well over a decade already? Yesterday, mercifully therefore, he, Ryan Kattner and Joe Plummer returned with their Mister Heavenly moniker, revealing the totally stellar Beat Down as they did so; a red-blooded, full-bodied honky-tonker that marries of Montréalais instrumentation together with the irrefutably forward opening gambit, “I want a beat down, but just for the education/ I want a three-way, but just for the conversation (There’s a lot more things to say that way)” [y’see?]. Beat Down is taken from Mister Heavenly’s forthcoming sophomore full-length, Boxing the Moonlight, which is available from October 6th via Polyvinyl Records.
