Ought, Desire.

On the basis of these three things: These 3 Things, Disgraced in America, and now Desire (below), Ought’s forthcoming Room Inside the World full-length may not be the most cohesive release you’ll hear all year, although the Canadian quartet’s third may be all the better for their righteously scattershot attitude. Because, compelling across the proverbial board, this latest track hears silky guitar lines gloriously interwoven with riotous, Stooges-esque sax and plush choral parts quite likely to rekindle indolent Talking Heads comparisons posthaste. However, it’s Tim Darcy’s increasingly idiosyncratic vocal – equal parts guttural Munchian gurgle and Andy Partridge grousing – which will, quite rightly, keep people babbling about Ought for the foreseeable.

Room Inside the World is available from February 16th via Merge Records, while Ought play The Garage on April 24th.
