Wye Oak; The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs.

Few weeks could fail to be ameliorated by the news of new Wye Oak material, and The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs – the title track from Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack’s forthcoming sixth full-length – has instantly slathered a real sheen right across this one. Reminiscent as much of Wasner’s Flock of Dimes larking as anything that she and Stack have put out previously, the latter’s polyrhythmic contribution nails down flighty synth lines and absorbing bass parts, before the kind of iconic chorus that has long since been the pair’s stock-in-trade kicks in. Combining erratic, electronic warbling with the most contrastively sedative of vocals, it’ll doubtless live on longer in memory than this particular week ever could. Anything but “time wasted,” basically.

The Louder I Call, The Faster It Runs is available from April 6th via Merge Records, while Wye Oak play Village Underground on May 3rd.
