Sean Nicholas Savage, The Last Emperor.

While Sean Nicholas Savage’s lovelorn, typically emotive latest, The Last Emperor, is so negligibly analogous to either one of David Byrne or Ryuichi Sakamoto that such comparisons seem completely superfluous, the song itself is, conversely, as essential as anything that has as yet surfaced from his forthcoming Yummycoma full-length. Which, given the somewhat antithetical strengths of both Lifestyles and Opposing Truths before it, really is something, the Albertan jongleur lamenting falling in love each and “every night of [his] life” amidst decidedly soporose musical components. Thus although the sentiment may sound nightmarish, The Last Emperor proves a real dream; albeit of the discombobulating, inert kind…

Yummycoma is available from this Friday, 13th October via Arbutus Records.
