First Transmission: The Yada Yada Yadas, Oceans.

In an age of increasingly humdrum, monotonous band names, The Yada Yada Yadas is as sardonically alright as the artwork which accompanies the Durham-based three-piece’s choppy, changeable Oceans (quite enough of which can be seen in the SoundCloud player embedded below) is atrocious. Regardless, and despite precious little of their alleged influences (Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel, and/ or The Flaming Lips, apparently) shining through, this particular introduction provides as resplendent a listen as you can realistically hope for come Wednesday morning. For reminiscent of nascent Weezer (more by way of Michael Shuman than Malkmus or Mangum, admittedly), it’s the sort of sprightly, yearning number that Rivers Cuomo would only contrive in wilder daydreams – whether they be Pacific or otherwise – these days…
