Following the lead of the likes of Beach House and labelmate Angel Olsen before them, Chicagoan supergroup Whitney are set for an offshoot release from last year’s sublime Light Upon the Lake, with their soi-disant ‘Demo Recordings’ comprising alternative versions of eight of its ten numbers, along with their already-revered cover of Allen Toussaint’s Southern Nights. However, with the news of said release comes a demo rendition – needless to say – of its tenth, and the irrepressibly sprightly You and Me: perhaps that bit too discrepantly giddying to justify inclusion on the album’s finalised tracklisting, regardless, it stands – and stands tall, too – as testament to the band’s abiding knack for idiosyncratic folk-rock that has both a kick and can be readily, willingly kicked-back to…
