Going against her assertion somewhat that all her songs ‘are kinda different from each other’, The Loch Ness Monster – the latest from London’s Matilda Mann – follows on perfectly from the preceding Never Sweeter. Again, spare musical accompaniment allows the teen’s intimate delivery to really thrive, as she’ll revel in dusky, slightly husky tones one moment, and reach for sublimely light heights the next. Atop a softened flow of acoustic strums, lapping Nick Mulvey-like rhythm, she’ll placidly dismiss: “So I’ll stay with the lakes in my mind/ Don’t you dare think that here you can hide,” as her emergence is suddenly made all the more immediate.
